During Qualifying

During the qualifying races, the bold Sebastian Vettel cut across the track in an attempt to throw off Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg. Vettel finished just behind current world champion, Lewis Hamilton, making it the first time the qualifying races have not been gridlocked by Mercedes AMG Petronas in a while. Hamilton, the 2014 season champion, and Vettel, the 2013 season champion, finished only 0.074 seconds apart, creating a strong intensity heading into the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Trouble in Paradise for Mercedes AMG Petronas?

Some wondered if the disputes between Hamilton and his teammate, Nico Rosberg, would begin again after Rosberg appeared to be blocking Hamilton as they broke out from the pole position during the qualifying races.

However, Hamilton quickly defended his teammate, stating there were many cars ahead of him and it was inevitable for a few to get in the way.

2013 F1™ Champion Wins in Malaysia

The former four-time world champion with Infiniti Red Bull Racing is back, but this time with Scuderia Ferrari! Coming back from an "off" season in 2014, Vettel made the move to Ferrari and from the looks of his performance at Sepang, the champion is back!

The race-winning moment occurred when Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson tried to do too much too fast and cut into the gravel, bringin the safety car. As most drivers took to their pits to swap out tyres, Vettel continued moving far beyond Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. While Hulkenberg kept the rest of the pack at bay, Vettel sped forward.

This win is sure to propel the young and successful driver to do even bigger things during his debut season with Ferrari.

A New Age: Max Verstappen

Another detail worth noted from this weekend's grand prix is Max Verstappen's performance. The 17-year-old Toro Rosso driver is now the youngest Formula 1™ driver ever to earn points during a Formula One™ grand prix. He finished in seventh place in the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Predictions Leading into the 2015 Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix

Posted by Rory Harris on Tue, Mar 24, 2015 @ 02:33 PM

The combination of tight corners and intense heat at the Sepang International Circuit will make the next Malaysian Grand Prix one of most difficult on the 2015 Formula One™ circuit.

Heading into next weekend, the expectations are high for teams. The Malaysian Grand Prix is often a predictor of who will be successful throughout the entire season. Every team wants to get off on a good start. Here is a little of what to expect:

2014_asm_malaysia_img_041.jpgA Sizzling Circuit

The Sepang International Circuit has been a staple in the Formula One™ circuit since its opening in 1990. It is the official venue for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The circuit consists of 56 laps, and the most challenging turns of the circuit tends to be five and six. Typically, the drivers will reach top speed at about turn 15. The Malaysian Grand Prix is the longest on Formula One’s calendar, in terms of distance.

The Malaysian Grand Prix may be best known for its heat. On average the temperature is approximately 90 degrees, making it difficult for drivers to have successful runs. Typically, around 4,000 bottles of water are consumed on site by drivers and team members. With humidity at 70%, they are smart to do so.

Malaysian’s Most Likely

World Champion Lewis Hamilton won the last grand prix held at the Sepang International Circuit and may be the favorite to win again. He has gained points at each race he participated in there, and the lowest pole position he received in his past eight grands prix was 8th place.

Ferrari has six wins at the circuit, making them the team with most wins at Sepang and a possible prospect to dominate again. Red Bull has won three times at the Malaysian Grand Prix, making them the second team favorite for this upcoming weekend.

You will want to tune-in for the highly-anticipated second weekend of the Formula One™ season, considering the Malaysian Grand Prix is often a home for controversy in the sport. Not only is it an incredibly challenging circuit, but teams and drivers tend to crack under the pressure of the heat and the difficulties they face during the race.

Memorably, in 2013, Red Bull’s team had a slight breakdown when Sebastian Vettel ignored team’s orders during the grand prix and overtook teammate Mark Webber to win the race. The two standing at the podium after the race will remain iconic for Formula One™
